February is our month of art—making, collecting, admiring and learning. We love art because it gives us a glimpse of someone’s heart, the part of them we don’t see on the surface. We are all drawn to art in different ways. We like to look at and listen to art that makes us feel something, art that resonates with us. Through art, we learn about ourselves.
As you read about the local artists in our community and their stories of passion and self-expression, we hope that you too are inspired to pursue what you love. Our profile on world-class freeskier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa exemplifies just that—read about how he found a way to live his dream. As if traveling the world skiing some of the most extreme mountains isn’t surreal enough, he also pursues passions for mountain biking and artistic endeavors in the visual arts and music. On the following pages you’ll get to know local artisans who create with blown glass, metal and mosaic. Take a look at the talent that surrounds us! Whether you admire the work of others or follow your own path (find suggestions for learning a new craft on page 35), enjoy living a creative life. Our community is more vibrant and colorful with your participation. So in the spirit of Valentine’s Day on February 14, cheers to pursuing what you love!
