Beyond ‘Dinner Out’
Ah, the romance of it all! You want to plan the perfect Valentine’s Day for you and your sweetie. You’re giddy with anticipation as your heart swells. Yet every single idea that bubbles up is something you’ve done before, and wasn’t particularly well-received. Your giddiness is immediately replaced by a wave of panic.
Don’t fear! We have three options for you that are sure to score more points than any simple ‘dinner out’ plan would.
Do-It-Yourself Date Night
◆ DIYcave’s Valentine’s Day Couples’ Welding Class – $40/per person.
◆ Couples Table Topics – $25.
◆ Dean Martin Radio on Pandora.
◆ Your favorite pizza fixings.
“When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie . . .”
What’s not to love about pizza? Start your DIY evening by cooking up a pizza just the way each of you likes it. Add a Dean Martin serenade and you can’t go wrong. After you’ve done the bossa nova around the kitchen, settle in at the table to enjoy your concoction and throw out a few conversation starters from Table Topics.
Tummies full and hearts a-flutter, put on your work clothes and sturdy shoes and head out to Bend’s DIYcave for your Couples Welding Class. You’ll create two halves of a steel heart and use the glowing warmth of—well, a welding torch—to join them together.
Elk Lake Resort Fine Dining and Cabin Stay – February 11
◆ Reserve your dinner, $49/per person, and cabin stay, $199-$459/night.
◆ Choose an adventurous ski or snowshoe in or take their SnowCat ride, $50/per person.
Be like James Bond and stash your finest attire in your backpack for a stealth cross-country ski trip to a remote cabin in the woods. Upon arrival, spiff yourself up, have a martini—shaken, not stirred—and head over for a fine dining experience at the Lodge.
While 2017’s menu has yet to be crafted, last year’s three-course meal choices included Seared Scallops, Fried Sage, Roasted Beet Passato, Pan-Fried Lump Crab Cake, Braised Beef Short Ribs, House-Made Gnocchi, and Candied Orange Crème Brulee with Sea Salt.
Get ready for the kudos as you wake up in a cozy cabin with a view of sparkling Elk Lake framed by snow-covered mountains and trees. 007 who? You won this round.
Romance on the Snow
◆ Choose February 10, 11, or 14, $95/per person.
◆ Reserve with Wanderlust Tours.
If you’re looking for that perfect excuse to cuddle up close, try taking a night hike in the snow. Your destination is an amphitheater carved into the snow with a bonfire at its center. Guides bring in desserts, champagne, and hot cocoa with Hazelnut Espresso Vodka. And, when not listening to the sweet nothings whispered in your ear or being mesmerized by the flames, turn your attention to one of Wanderlust’s award-winning Naturalists as they drop some facts on the forest and night sky.
The tour also includes rental of a headlamp and snowshoes. Waterproof boots, pants, and jackets are available for rent for an extra fee.
Warm fire, warm friends, warm drinks, beautiful snow and expansive sky, what’s not to love?
