December 2016 Lifestyle Letter 1

With the holidays in full swing, I hope you have a chance—despite the craziness—to take in the joy this season brings. I know I sometimes lose that focus when things get so hectic this time of year. But, I always imagine a peaceful, joyous (and, hopefully a white) holiday that overshadows the stress.

We designed this issue to help you find more meaning in your gift giving this year. When you make up your gift list, think about giving gifts that give back. We’ve showcased some outstanding local businesses offering unique gifts, each supporting an important cause. It is an honor to live in a community with so many social entrepreneurs!

We’ve also included a “buy local” holiday gift guide. Bend is abundant in beautifully handcrafted gifts—and it feels great to support our local economy.

Special thanks to our friends at Twist Cocktail Catering Co. for sharing some decadent cocktail recipes for our Culinary Creations this issue. (I can’t wait to try them.)  And to pay it forward, read about spreading holiday cheer with the Cocktail Angels.

From our family to yours, happy holidays!

Correction: In our Compassion and Companionship article (October, page 26), the Humane Society of Central Oregon has a staff of 44, not 144. We regret our inadvertent mistake.
